“Aren’t there bigger problems in the world”?

This always depends on the perspective. For some people, environmental issues are more important than human rights, for others ethically produces clothes are more important than ethically produces food. Let’s define a big problem as a problem where the whole world is affected, and which has a bad impact on our life. Most would agree that climate change, wars (including human rights) and our health issues (cancer, heart attacks which are increasing) such huge problems, right?

And I just want to simply tell that veganism doesn’t solve all these problems, but it is the only factor which has a significant impact on all three topics. There is no other solution which can offer this.

Of course, there are also always heated discussions about what is the most important factor in climate change. Some claim it is the animal agriculture (methane gas or water usage) and others claim it is the transportation, plastic waste or globalization. But we can all agree on this: There are a lot of factors which should be included but those mentioned are the main topics. And even if animal agriculture isn’t the biggest topic of all, it is responsible for a huge part of our environmental issues. I don’t say that vegans only eat sustainable food because there are still other issues (e.g. palm oil or the use of way too many insecticides). But by going vegan you are already minimizing your global footprint and by the way you get health benefits as a bonus (e.g. reduces the risk of several diseases like cancer, heart diseases, diabetes). And as a super bonus, you know that no animal has been harmed for your food choices. Veganism tries to reduce harm to all beings as much as possible and in a vegan world, nobody wants to fight a war, because why should we hurt someone of our own species if we don’t want to harm other species? I know this sounds very dreamful and won’t happen overnight, but the more people change their mindset and start actually caring about those “big problems in the world” the more will realize that veganism should be one of the first steps (because it is easy and everybody can contribute to it) with a huge impact on our world, societies and our well-being. So you are right, there are bigger problems than me being vegan, but my vegan lifestyle has a huge positive impact on all of these problems and therefore I think it is a great step for everyone to start with.
