These things are not accepted in our human society but we like to use other terms regarding our treatment of animals. Before you read further, please put yourself into the position of the victim (animal or human doesn’t matter, because you are a sentient being). It is only fair to consider those terms out of the victim’s perspective. Let’s look at each term closely:

Murder: If a human kills another human we call it murder. If a human kills a farm animal we call it slaughter. If a human kills our pet we call it murder. So we are using a different word and make one thing legal and the other illegal. The reason for this: The consumer should not feel bad about eating meat and be responsible for a committed “murder”.

Rape: If a human is sexually active with someone else against the will of this person we call it rape. But if a human is sticking his hand with bull sperm into a cow’s vagina (against the will of the cow) it is artificial insemination (which sounds very fancy). Yeah, of course, the farmer does not have sex with the cow, but what would we call the farmer’s act if he does the same thing to a woman without her agreement? Still rape. So again we like to use different words to make our treatment of animals “better” than it actually is.

Slavery: If a human owes another human, and let him work without any appreciation or remuneration we call it slavery. If we owe a cow, impregnate her, steal her babies and her milk and kill her at the end we call this (regular or even humane) farming.

All these treatments are based on speciesism (you don’t know what this is, have a look here: Speciesism). Personally, I don’t care what we call it, but at the end, it is the same act and we should not try to hide the truth behind some definitions just to let us feel better about it. It’s about the treatment of a sentient and innocent being which has a will to live with its family and not being harmed.

Do the change and go vegan

By simply making other choices in the supermarket you can have a direct impact on the harm caused to other living beings. If you have any concerns regarding veganism have a look at my other articles and if you still have open questions or if you are struggling at a specific point, just leave me a comment or contact me directly. If you want to support this webpage and me to continue spreading the vegan message you can do this here. Thank you a lot.

Don’t close your eyes and ask yourself what stops you to make a difference? I am convinced you won’t regret it.

Cheers,
